 Defending Nigeria’s Digital Finance: Countering DPRK Cryptocurrency Threats

About the Event:

CRDF Global in partnership with U.S. Department of State's Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction, and industry experts are delighted to host a two-day workshop in Lagos, Nigeria for private sector financial and cybersecurity professionals at virtual asset service providers (VASPs) in Nigeria.

The focus of this training will be to support financial institutions and VASPs in Nigeria to implement effective compliance and cybersecurity programs to mitigate threat actors' abilities to circumvent sanctions and exploit businesses while raising awareness on recent laundering trends and cyberattacks. As sanctioned entities continue to steal, mine, and launder cryptocurrencies to generate revenue for weapons programs, participants will be armed with the skills and abilities to protect their institutions.

This workshop will provide participants with practical skills and insights related to:

  • Compliance

  • Threat awareness
  • Cybersecurity best practices
  • Wallet architecture
  • API and cloud security
  • Vulnerability management
  • North Korean IT worker threats
  • Social engineering

What You will Learn:

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will engage with:

  • Cybersecurity threats specific to the Nigerian VASP industry, including tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) of threat actors that target this industry.
  • How to enhance cybersecurity controls around wallet infrastructure and exchange platforms as well as how to mitigate cybersecurity risks related to phishing, insider threats, and other system vulnerabilities.
  • How to improve incident response capabilities, including through collaborating with the public sector and law enforcement.
  • Effective information sharing and threat intelligence best practices.


Who Should Attend?

Private sector: Representatives from cryptocurrency exchanges, fintech firms, commercial banks and payment service providers that manage cryptocurrency and work in compliance, risk, or cybersecurity.
