EVENT SUMMARY

Join CRDF Global, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) Slovenia in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from June 12-13, 2024, for a two-day cybersecurity conference. This event will delve into crucial topics surrounding research integrity and cybersecurity at academic, private and public institutions in Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and North Macedonia. Attendees will explore effective cybersecurity strategies aimed at fortifying data protection and preventing the illicit appropriation of intellectual property (IP) and technology. Additionally, the conference will spotlight best practices on crafting and implementing institutional cybersecurity frameworks, which are critical in safeguarding national security against hostile interventions. The conference will also highlight insights from past cyber-attacks, equipping the participants with the tools to identify vulnerabilities and bolster incident response capabilities.

This gathering will facilitate the exchange of cybersecurity expertise, strategies, and lessons learned from the United States, European Union, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and North Macedonia. Through panels, presentations, and interactive workshop sessions, the conference will not only increase knowledge and awareness of specific cyberthreats, but also foster dialogue between key stakeholders across sectors and multiple countries, and support practical steps that address threats to the public, private and research and technology sectors.

The theft of critical and potentially weaponizable technologies poses significant challenges to security, economic prosperity, and the free flow of research and science in Europe. Research institutions, universities, governmental institutions, and the private sector all confront escalating cyber threats, primarily from foreign governments sponsoring cyber actors to intercept sensitive data, research, and intellectual property. This conference serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue among relevant stakeholders across attending countries to tackle these pressing issues head-on.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This conference is well suited for government officials, scientists, researchers, academics, corporate leadership, IT and cybersecurity professionals, and other relevant personnel working at institutions dealing with critical, sensitive, and potentially dual-use data, potentially vulnerable to cyber-attacks and theft which may be diverted for use in support of state-sponsored WMD and ballistic missile programs.

The conference is structured specifically for institutions in Slovenia, Romania, Serbia and North Macedonia and will feature leading experts and speakers from these countries as well as the United States.
