CRDF Global and Informed Defense is pleased to host a two-day, in-person cybersecurity capacity-building workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for cybersecurity, network, computer science and IT professionals from research and technology companies and academic institutions in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
This workshop will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration on addressing cybersecurity challenges research companies and academic institutions face to protect institutional networks. Through in-person presentations, real-world examples, and hands-on activities, this workshop will promote safe and secure cybersecurity best practices to protect your organization's innovation.
The workshop will be held free of charge and travel support will be provided for selected participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, and those who reside 70km (about 43.5 mi) or more from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Expert Speakers
Steve Anson
Co-Founder of Informed Defense
Steve is the author of Applied Incident Response, the co-author of Mastering Windows Network Forensics and Investigations, and a Principal Instructor for the SANS Institute.
As a US federal agent working with the FBI and US Department of Defense, Steve conducted digital forensic examinations and led complex computer crime investigations into network intrusions, international espionage, domestic and international terrorism, fraud, crimes against children, and other cases involving national security and imminent danger to life. Steve served as a contract instructor in digital investigation at the FBI Academy, taught as an adjunct professor for George Washington University, and has provided cyber security and digital investigation services for over 20 years in more than 60 countries. Steve continues to specialize in helping organizations understand, prepare for, and mitigate state-sponsored cyber-attacks.
Sorot Panichprecha
Founder of Epiphany Consulting
Dr. Sorot is the founder of Epiphany Consulting. Epiphany, based in Bangkok, Thailand, which provides both offensive and defensive services from penetration testing to digital forensic investigation and security incident response. In addition to his information security career, he is also a part-time university lecturer teaching information security subjects including digital forensics and has conducted classes for the SANS Institute in Singapore and Thailand, in addition to workshops with RSA Asia Pacific-Japan. Dr. Sorot holds a Master's degree in information technology and a PhD, with a thesis focused on intrusion-detection systems (IDS) He has been active with SANS since 2009.
Workshop Agenda

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Lunch to be provided)
Day 1 will provide an overview of the cyber risk landscape through case studies. Speakers will highlight the common tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used by advanced adversaries and discuss effective frameworks for cybersecurity. Participants will participate in an exercise to explore some of the most common initial access TTPs.

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Lunch to be provided)
Day 2 will build upon this knowledge to explore additional TTPs, discuss the most effective security controls, explain methods for detecting the presence of adversaries, and detail incident response preparedness. A final exercise will explore the risks and mitigations discussed and provide participants with materials to use to assess their organization’s security posture.

- Eligible Institutions: Public and private companies and academic institutions that create, manage, or handle sensitive information and data in areas of research and technology deemed weapons-applicable such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, semiconductor manufacturing, high-performance computing, aircraft and aerospace engineering, and deep space exploration and advanced rocketry.
