Countering DPRK Illicit Maritime Activities:
A Joint U.S.-ROK-Japan Maritime Industry Symposium
December 17, 2024 | Singapore
Registration is now closed.
We will finalize and communicate the status of your registrations by next week.
Thank you!
OVERVIEW
The U.S. Department of State, the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs are jointly hosting a maritime industry symposium for private sector maritime stakeholders and Southeast Asian representatives to address illicit DPRK maritime activities that fund its WMD and ballistic missile programs. Public sector representatives, including port authorities, maritime regulators, and law enforcement, are also welcome to register for the symposium.
Government officials from the U.S., ROK, and Japan, along with maritime sanctions experts, will discuss DPRK oil smuggling, sanctions evasion, industry risks, enforcement actions, and risk mitigation best practices, while sharing industry perspectives on challenges and innovations.
The symposium aims to strengthen public-private cooperation to curb DPRK coal and iron ore exports (violating UNSCR 2371) and refined petroleum imports (violating UNSCR 2397), while ensuring DPRK's sanctions evasion activities are effectively identified, reported, and disrupted.
