CRDF Global and the U.S. Department of State are pleased to host a series of in-person trainings on the topic of Maritime Domain sanctions awareness and compliance for private sector Turkish maritime stakeholders. Participating in this training will arm you with specific knowledge to defend your organization from fiscal uncertainty, secondary sanctions, and reputational risk.

Training consists of a full-day course focused on the agenda topics featured below.

Who Should Attend?

Professional personnel from the Turkish private maritime sector:

  • To include: Private shipping conglomerates, bunkering service providers, maritime insurance provider, operations managers, procurement managers, private maritime security providers, port managers, compliance advisors, trade and logistics representatives, and similar stakeholders.
  • From: The ports of Samsun.
  • *Non-Turkish citizens will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Passport or national ID number required for security review.

The goal of this session is to introduce C4ADS’ approach and set the foundation for what we will discuss over the course of the entire day. The overarching goal of the training is to expose attendees to the significant risks posed by maritime sanctions evasion, methods to identify and counteract these risks, and exchange best practices among attendees.

Introducing Publicly Available Information PAI 

The goal of this session is to introduce the concept of corporate data to the attendee. Attendees will learn the importance of peeling back multiple layers behind corporate ownership, emphasizing the need to identify ultimate beneficial ownership. Further, attendees will learn how to access records in high-value jurisdictions such as the Balkans and Cyprus; and learn about unique sources of corporate data like due diligence servicers and data aggregators.

Maritime Domain Awareness and Vessel Obfuscation Methods 

The goal of this session is to explain the complex process and supply chain for shipping and vessels. It will cover the data sources required to navigate the maritime space including AIS data, vessel ownership data, and flag registries. The session will illuminate the relevancy of this approach across multiple problem sets beyond oligarch tracking to include issues like sanctions evasion, smuggling, and environmental crime. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to identify a vessel in a port and its owner with just a picture.

Due Diligence in Practice

This module will discuss the building blocks for monitoring sanctions evasion and noncompliance, as well as “red flags” that stakeholders should look for to ensure that vessels seeking services are not evading sanctions.
