Compliance Conundrum: Mitigating DPRK Proliferation Finance Risks in Latin America and the Caribbean

December 14, 2023 |Time: 10am-11am EST

PROTECT YOUR INSTITUTIONS | ENHANCE YOUR SANCTIONS COMPLIANCE AWARENESS

CRDF Global, with the generous support of Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC’s) Weapons Threat Reduction Program (WTRP) and in collaboration with Compliance and Capacity Skills International (CCSI), invites you to attend a webinar titled "Compliance Conundrum: Mitigating DPRK Proliferation Finance Risks in Latin America and the Caribbean." Recipients of the CRDF Global Counterproliferation Finance Fellowship grant, who represent institutions from the private and public financial sectors across Latin America and the Caribbean, will present on Latin America and the Caribbean-specific sanctions risk for financial institutions. The presenters will incorporate information from their own research and from various meetings with top experts in the sanctions compliance field during their study tour to Washington, D.C. Topics will include overviews of Know-Your-Customer and Know-Your-Transaction best practices, cryptocurrency risks, cybersecurity risks, and maritime sanctions evasion tactics, among other key points.

Please join the recipients of the CRDF Global Counterproliferation Finance Fellowship to learn how to enhance your organization's understanding and application of the aforementioned topics to fortify your institution against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK’s) sanctions evasion tactics.

The DPRK has exploited financial institutions worldwide to launder and obfuscate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for their weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and missile program. As part of this exploitation, they have conducted targeted hacks and money laundering attempts through financial institutions, leaving them at risk for financial and reputational damages. The objective of this webinar is to strengthen your organization with region-specific knowledge to protect against such malicious actors, and equip you with the tools to develop and maintain a comprehensive sanctions risk management framework.

Please register today for this free webinar. For any questions or concerns regarding this event or your eligibility to attend, please contact JuAn Lee-Thacker at jleethacker@crdfglobal.org.
